1. Defending the Constitution: The Union resolved to join the People’s Coalition to actively push back against the recent Constitutional Amendment Act 3.
2. Solidarity with Cuba: ARTUZ resolved to offer practical solidarity to the people of Cuba, who remain under a cruel and criminal blockade imposed by the United States government. Cuba has consistently provided the world with exceptional doctors to treat the underserved, dedicated teachers for those without access to education, and revolutionaries to help free those under colonial rule. The international community must not remain silent while Cubans are punished with this unjust blockade.
3. Public Service Act Alignment: The Union resolved to plan a protest at Parliament demanding the urgent amendment of the Public Service Act to align it with the 2013 Constitution. We question why CAB3 was fast-tracked in a fortnight, while aligning the Public Service Act has been delayed for years. The Act must explicitly provide for the rights to strike and collective bargaining.
4. Living Wage Demand: Regarding remuneration, the Union resolved to routinely protest at government offices to demand a minimum salary of USD 1,260.
5. Bridge to Belonging Campaign: In response to returning residents who are victims of xenophobic violence in South Africa, the Union will run the “Bridge to Belonging” campaign. This initiative will compile a database of returning teachers and learners and facilitate their seamless reintegration into our education system.
