ARTUZ Statement on the Education Crisis in Hopley

The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) on Saturday held a community meeting in Hopley to engage parents, teachers, and learners on the right to education. The gathering was a powerful reminder that education is a fundamental right, not a privilege,...

“In my school, over 60 pupils share one class with no textbooks for the new curriculum. How can our children compete with those in well-funded schools? We need an Education Equalisation Fund now.”

“Schools are supposed to be safe spaces, but instead they are turned into political rally grounds. Learners are forced to sing and dance for politicians while lessons stop. This is not education — it is abuse.”

“Sometimes I miss school because my family cannot afford transport money. I want to be in class every day, but poverty keeps pulling me back.”

“This year I had to choose between paying rent and paying exam fees for my children. No parent should face such choices. Education should be free and fair.”
